Welcome!
We’ve
put this site on the web to introduce you to Orillia Baptist Church
and to invite you to come and visit us. You will find information
about our various ministries
and the time and location
of services. If you need more information, we invite you to contact
us and we will seek to help you.
Our
burden is to see God glorified in this world. We know that before
God saved us, we were living completely for ourselves and had no concern
for God or that he should be honoured. But the gospel has made a
great difference in our lives. Though we do it imperfectly, our goal
is to live for Christ and to bring praise to God who has rescued us from
what we were.
We
owe a great deal to God’s work in history. That is why we identify
ourselves as Reformed Baptists. We have been impacted by the rediscovery
of the gospel during the Protestant Reformation. Our confession
of faith comes from the Puritan period in England when many truths
of Scripture were being understood and applied to church life and individual
discipleship. We have no desire to be stuck in the past but we believe
that God was pleased to reveal many helpful things throughout history that
can help us today as we seek to live to the glory of God.
It
is our desire that what could be said of many spiritual giants of past
centuries could be said of us. As R.C. Sproul wrote: “These
men all were conquered, overwhelmed, and spiritually intoxicated by their
vision of the holiness of God. Their minds and imaginations were captured
by the majesty of God the Father. Each of them possessed a profound affection
for the sweetness and excellence of Christ. There was in each of them a
singular and unswerving loyalty to Christ that spoke of a citizenship in
heaven that was always more precious to them than the applause of men.” |
